Documentaries

MFA Productions LLC has produced many different documentaries; it would be impossible to list them all. Here are two of our featured productions.

Nine Sisters

Nine Sisters

Many people do not realize that the United States, already at a disadvantage with the Imperial Japanese Navy, lost most of their aircraft carriers by the end of 1942. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Admiral John S.”Slew“ McCain were just some of the people who facilitated the construction of nine "light carriers" built on gun cruiser hulls. These "Independence" class light carriers started to join the fleet in 1943 and fought in every battle of the Pacific War through 1945. With the larger "Essex" class, the light carriers formed battle groups. Largely forgotten today, these ships formed the backbone of America's fast carrier striking forces.

MFA Productions LLC has 125 hours of interviews with veterans of the nine "Independence" class ships and the two "Saipan" class postwar light carriers. A preliminary documentary, The Sinking of USS Princeton, was shown on CUNY-TV in January 2010. Plans are in place to make episodes for all eleven carriers.

Day of the Kamikaze

DOTK

On November 25, 1944, four United States Navy carriers were struck by suicide aircraft off the coast of Luzon. One of the carriers was the USS Inrepid, now currently berthed in New York City as a museum. Intrepid was the host locaiton for shooting Day of the Kamiakze. Teens, interested in studying the war, met with surivvors of the attacks on all four ships. This documentary, narrated by CW 11reporter Marvin Scott, aired in Europe on Osterriecher Rundfunk (ORF) Austria's public television station.
